Surftape® in Detail
Surftape® is a punched plastic carrier tape with a flexible pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) base.
NO COVER TAPE REQUIRED !

Advantages:
• No X, Y or θ movement !
Components remain securely in tape cavities, exactly as placed, until picked by vacuum.

• No Tooling Charge !
Many different size Die can fit into one size Surftape®, eradicating the need for tooling. Compare this with conventional carrier tapes where each component size requires a custom, made-to-fit cavity.

• Secure Component Retention & Removal !
Adhesion level may be adjusted to optimise ease of pick removal, whilst maintaining secure retention during handling

• Adhesive is compatible with COB and SMT
Adhesive base contains no halogens, contaminants or residue, so is totally compatible with SMT and Bare Die components
• No Cover Tape !
Since the parts adhere to the PSA, there is no need for cover tape. This means no more cover tape to break, tear, delaminate carrier, or ‘spike’ during peelback

•  Precise Theta Orientation !
Component stays exactly where placed - no theta correction required.

• Compatible with existing processes !
Surftape® is compatible with taping machines that use the sprocket feed drive holes as the fiducial for component placement and is made to international standards.
Although Surftape is a relatively new product, Adhesive-backed Carrier Tape has been used in industry for many years, being the fore-runner to embossed tape. However, Surftape comes into its own when small lightweight components must be handled with speed and precision. For more information on the history of Surftape, click here.
