Ordering codes
The Surftape drawings show the possible order codes for different types of Surftape. If the required ‘T’ or ‘W1’ dimension is not shown as an option, then contact the facotry for more information.
Surftape part numbers comprise 3 parts:
Generic type: e.g. St128
Thickness ‘T’ option: e.g. .7
(without any preceding zero)
Gap width ‘W1’ option e.g. 1
Length of tape on reel e.g.- 90
(check with factory for available lengths)
So, a complete order code would be - St128.71 - 90
Correct selection of ‘T’ dimension
For small components placed in 8mm wide tape, the thickness ‘T’ of the tape should be greater than the maximum thickness of the component . For larger tape types, an extra clearance should be allowed to ensure that the component surface does not touch the next layer of tape when initially spooling onto the hub of a new reel. Contact the factory for more advice on ‘T’ dimension for large components.

Correct selection of ‘W1‘ dimension
The optimum gap width ‘W1‘ for Surftape is 50% of the length of the component, assuming that the component is mounted across the width of the tape, per normally taping convention.
If additional adhesion is required, this gap may be reduced slightly, but care should be taken to ensure that the component can be released correctly by the pick & place system.
If less adhesion is required, then the gap may be increased slightly, but care should be taken to ensure that the adhesion is sufficient to hold the component during handling and shipping.
Selection of ‘W1‘ dimension for Flip-Chip or ‘push-through’ applications
The optimum gap width for ‘push-through’ is 80% of the length of the component, assuming that the component is mounted across the width of the tape, per normally taping convention.
